Athletics key to Varsity Success

The St.Mary’s men’s and woman’s teams won the athletics at the West London Varsity event providing a crucial two points to the overall score.

 The West London Varsity Challenge covered many outdoor and indoor events at the main campus at St Mary’s Strawberry Hill and Teddington Lock campus.

These included outdoor sports such as rugby, cricket, football and athletics as well as indoor sports including Futsal, rowing, table-tennis and volleyball.

The track events included the 100, 200, 800, 1500 and relay in both the men’s and women’s.

The field events included the men’s and women’s long jump, shot-put and discus.

Among the stand out events for St.Mary’s were the men’s 1500m where Jack Williams, Alex Dunbar and Carl Billington secured a one, two, three. So underlining the dominance the St.Mary’s athletes had on the track.

St.Mary’s went onto to clinch the overall varsity title for the first time in five years by an overall score of 15-11.
