The St Mary’s men’s rugby league team face Brunel on Wednesday 29th March as the rivalry is tested once more in the traditional Varsity competition between those of West London’s Middlesex and Uxbridge.

This year sees Brunel host last year's champions, St. Mary's.

The rugby league side have beaten Brunel in the last three Varsity matches so come into the match as strong favourites against a Brunel side who will be looking for revenge.

The match begins at 2pm on Brunel’s Cemetery Pitch and will surely be a big turning point in the day.

Sam Cliffe, Vice President Sport and Societies at St Mary’s, believes that the trophy will remain in Twickenham and calls for a confident performance away from home.

Cliffe said: “St Mary’s has the perfect opportunity to win this competition for the first time away from home. This trophy is ours, let’s keep it that way!”

This trophy is ours, let's keep it that way!

However, St Mary’s confidence will surely be tested as Brunel look to break a horrid run in this rugby league fixture.

Michael Darlow, Vice President of Activities at Brunel, claims team spirit could see Brunel claim back the varsity trophy.

Darlow said: “With the newly branded sports clubs at Brunel, the camaraderie and unity is the best it has ever been. I wish all the best to all the competitors and hope that everyone who is involved enjoys their day.”

Mark Twain once said ‘The most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.’

Both men’s rugby league teams will be seeking victory to help support their university in this year's West London Varsity.

Maybe Wednesday will be the day that individuals and teams step forward and realise that this day will be THE day to do something great...

St. Mary's rugby league team will face Brunel at 2pm on the Cemetary Pitch so make sure you head down to give them your full support!

If you can't make it, we'll be bringing Varsity to you with our live blog on the day! Check out the Sports Gazette for the latest on Varsity!
