WEST LONDON VARSITY PREVIEW: Strong seasons give tennis teams confidence

Published: 28 Mar 2017

The Brunel courts will tomorrow be the arena for a fierce battle for tennis supremacy in West London Varsity on Wednesday 29th March.

The varsity tennis match is the same format as the BUCS league - with two singles matches and four doubles matches.

With no injuries hampering the team, the boys are taking six players this year, while the girls are taking four.

Committee President Millie Bass is expecting a strong performance by the teams as a result of the successful seasons that both have experienced this year.

The men’s team won their last five matches in a row to finish second in the South-Eastern 4B league.

At the end of a tight season, they were only two points behind the league winners, Essex, and left third place Kent a full 14 points adrift.

With it being only their second year in BUCS, the women’s team faced an uphill task competing in the South Eastern 4A division.

However, they battled hard throughout and had a great year - finishing third behind only Kingston and Roehampton.

There’s no doubt though that they’ll face stern opposition from the Brunel teams.

The Brunel’s men’s first team currently play a couple of league’s above St Mary’s, while the women’s team won the 3A South Eastern league.

The tennis matches start at one o’clock, with the final match set to wrap up at around half past five.

St. Mary's men's and women's tennis will face Brunel at 1pm on the Tennis Courts so make sure you head down to give them your full support!
