Sports Gazette spoke to Badminton Women's team Captain Lauren Theedom ahead of their West London Varsity clash with Brunel on Wednesday 29th March.

Theedom's women's team has produced some standout performances during the entire season.

After becoming the table toppers in the BUCS Badminton 2016-2017 - South Eastern 2A, the team will be entering the court with high morale.

Sports Gazette: How optimistic are you about winning at the Wesy London Varsity 2017 ?

Lauren Theedom: I'm very optimistic that both the ladies teams will win and hopefully St Mary's as a whole.

Everyone has been training hard for this day. It's the pinnacle moment of the year, and to say you beat Brunel is a huge thing.

SG: How has the practice been coming along ?

LT: Practice has been really good recently, we had a lot of matches in March, and our results have been reflecting that all our hard training is paying off.

SG: Who do you think is going to be your toughest opponent at Brunel?

LT: Within the ladies team we are expecting the two doubles pairs to really challenge our doubles girls.

But the girls have been playing together since September, and we are hoping this will be positive for them as they will have a lot of game experience together as well as being great friends off court too.

"The girls have done me proud this season with all their hard work, and producing great wins as well as unexpected wins."

SG: Do you think both the men and women's teams will do well?

LT: We are hoping the men will conquer Brunels men's team. However, Brunel have a very strong men's team, but we will have to wait and see on the day.

The women have a great chance of winning tomorrow, especially with our current performances. Either way we will have it, it will be a great experience and we are supporting each other on court no matter what.

SG: Are you happy with your form and the team's form?

LT: The ladies team is currently undefeated this season and so obviously we will be hoping to carry this on. The girls have done me proud this season with all their hard work, and producing great wins as well as unexpected wins.

Personally I am feeling confident with how I've been playing to hopefully secure my two wins. But we don't know what will happen on the court of course.

We all can't wait for the start, and can't wait to represent the St Mary's for the last time this season. And be proud to call ourselves Simmies.
